I often feel a whole new garden begin in July at the Healthy Home Habitats house. The cool pink, blue and purple colors of most spring flowers fade to the hot oranges and many, striking, almost rhythmic versions of not-exactly-red that begin to sparkle along the fences, at the end of a stalk, in a variety of shapes and sizes; assorted Daylilies, Scarlet Runner Beans, Zagreb Coreopsis, Sour Cherries (!) and Butterfly Milkweed.
They feel like tiny jewels in the midst of verdant green.
They and their leaves are also food for the insects that feed our songbirds.
They are layered, ephemeral, supporting life, providing pleasure and lovely.
