Yay! I bet someone else notes this day annually too? There must be a term for it.
From this day forward the Healthy Home Habitats house catches up to what we used last winter and now starts saving kWH to use next winter for heat and household electricity. It costs us $13.81 every month to have our local energy utility store the excess kWhs for us (Net Metering). This will be the case until we choose to buy a backup battery. No complaints though as this is also our entire, monthly electricity bill. It has been the same amount for four years hence and into the future as well.
It was terrifying to spend nearly $40k of my currently meager retirement funds for all of the pieces and parts that make these energy savings possible.
However, over these first four years, we’ve used 2.5 total tanks of heating oil versus the previous usage of 3 tanks per year equals 12 tanks, which is still a substantial savings of $8,275 ($2,177 versus $10,452). When I factor in previous electricity and propane costs, initial efficiency insulation work, solar panels, Solatubes, Mitsubishi H2i Hyperheat Heat Pump, Interior Storm Windows, Wall-Mounted Clothes Drying Racks, Solar Attic Fans. IM me for a summary. The ROI for the investment is 11 years with a liberal dose of relief and joy.
This all took several years to do. And now you know a few more ways it is possible to take action steps toward helping our communities and planet heal every day. Happy Sunny Day to you.
